Thomas Wise

THOMAS WISE: ARTIST STATEMENT

I refer to myself as a surrealistic and abstract artist with the ability to capture realism.  My works, sometimes diverse in nature, often depict the emotions, and spirit of me and my past and present frames of references.  In knowing that my GOD given creative ability is limitless, I produce flowing colorful, winding, energetic, and organic abstract images, all the while being conscious of combining all these characteristics in harmony and composition.

Knowledge obtained through intense schooling, and studies of the past masters, combined with a God given eye for color, and ability to compose, (partly through being a musician) helps me to create via the use of various mediums exactly what I see, and/or feel.  My influences with regards to artists and their styles range from Pablo Picasso, Leroy Neiman, Jackson Pollock, Jonathan Green, Romare Bearden, Lois -Mailou Jones, David Driskell, Frank smith, and Alma Thomas.  My love for aboriginal art shines through selected images.  Hiding subtleties within my abstracts is a trait of mine, where at first glance the image may appear as an exotic assemblage of colors, only to discover at closer observation that the image of a fish, or bird, or face, has emerged.  My use of color and breaking up of space allows me the freedom to create based on my inner most spirit, telling stories of my life influences.
